It was pretty tough figuring out a good way to celebrate our anniversary with something fun due to our thin wallets and my not so thin tummy. Nonetheless we had a great weekend together doing little things here and there and just spending time together. That's what is most important anyway, not a big fancy dinner or exotic vacation. Since our anniversary falls on a Sunday this year we decided to make a weekend celebration of it.
Friday we got all ready to go to the temple for a great kick off to our weekend, and as we pulled up we knew something was up because there were about 14 cars in the parking lot. Nuts! They were closed for maintenance. Why not go to any of the other 3 temples in the valley, you might be wondering? Well.. my belly doesn't fit into my temple dress and Jordan River is the only one that rents (although I think SL does but at that point we didn't have time to do a live session). We sort of have funny luck with going to the temple the past few times, last time we got all ready to go and the parking lot was barren. We couldn't figure out for the longest time why because it wasn't for maintenance. Finally we realized it was Monday. Ha! Silly silly. We have definitely learned our lesson to call ahead! But it's ok we made a springy come back and swiftly moved on to our next activity early.
Next stop: The (new) Living Planet Aquarium!
Jord and I had a great time watching a 4D movie on Great White Sharks, seeing little mini penguins, energetic sea otters, and lots of other little critters big and small.
Saturday morning we made our way over to Jordan River for a nice little bike ride along the Jordan Parkway trail. It was quite nice just cruising along side by side enjoying the ride and chatting. I love having Jord all to myself, no distractions, no time obligations, just good quality time. Also a bonus: a flat trail! Very doable for this prego lady :)
We finished off our evening with a trip over to our very very favorite place- Asian Potato! Some of the Hamren family joined us as well which made for some good company and more food variety to try family style. Love it! We always leave feeling satisfied and filled to the brim with asian goodness. MMM.
Here's a little year in review of things that I never blogged (gotta get better at that!)
I cheated a little because this was actually when we were dating. But I have a good reason for including it! This was at a new year's eve party and we let off floating lanterns in which we had written one wish on. Mine said "be with Jord for eternity" and his said "marry aub".
Eating 'Patties' on our Cayman Island stop on our Honeymoon cruise.
I just thought I would include this as a tribute to my pre-pregnancy self because we don't know if we will see her again. (haha) This was when the Duncan's were getting family pictures the day before our wedding.
Yay! The 4th of July watching fireworks with the Cramer's that came all the way from Maryland. We are excited for when we can see them again next.
Spontaneous camping trip!
Hamren Hike!
Jord and I were sick together for about 2 weeks with sore throats. This is us looking cute with our nasal strips.
Sledding with our friends Kirt and Sarah Haynie.
Jord's brother Tyson and his wife Kami invited us to go up for free tram ride day with a can, my dad joined us as for the fun as well. It was COLD! Oh and don't worry, Jordy brought his trusty can of pringles. :)
(Not sure what's on my face here) One sunny Saturday we decided to go buy a gold pan and find our fortune. We didn't find it, but we had a great time pretending like we did!
Valentine's Day! When we publicly announced that we are expecting. I got my blood drawn after my OB appointment that day and for the first time ever I made it through without getting too worked up because for the first time ever Jord was with me and he helped so incredibly much. Something like this might not be a big deal to a lot of people but I had to get my blood drawn a lot as a kid and it was always so hard for me. Jord always knows what I need and how to calm me down and without fail he did it while I got poked- I didn't even know that was possible! He is wonderful.
We treated ourselves and had a nice dinner at Asian Star for V-day as well.
(We love chinese, can you tell?)
Well.. I wasn't kidding when I said we love chinese. We announced to our families via fortune cookie that our sweet little baby is a boy! Above is the crib that we bought (pictured is the model in the store) and also some side profiles of my big round bell.
Jordy taught me how to ripstik and we had so much fun that we went out and bought one for ourselves!
I never thought I'd be able to ride one of those crazy things but I'm here to tell you that if I can learn while pregnant, you can too!
Watch out betty crocker! My first homemade loaf of bread. Can you smell that freshness?
Jord's family has this retro dirt bike from the 70's so we pull it out sometimes and ride it around in the yard. It is so little and fun. Doesn't he look cute?
This picture isn't the best but you can still tell what's going on. Jordy really wanted to have a fire and make s'mores but it was Sunday and we didn't have graham crackers. Luckily i found a recipe for homemade graham crackers and luckily they turned out! S'mores are so much better when the grahams are soft, ya gotta try it!
Hiking to Donut Falls!
Morning Session of conference with papa Duncan and the Lynch's. You can tell we are still sleepy…
Wheeler farm for a picnic and a visit to the horses!
I thought I would do a little something out of the ordinary (flags are pretty exciting right?) and make jord some fun little breakfast muffins for Father's day with a little message stuck in it. I was pretty excited to present him with my big surprise. As we were eating, Jord's older brother Jason was sitting at the table next to us. Jord showed him his muffins and said "look what aub made for Father's Day!". Jay was super confused and asked if it was really Father's Day, and I started to feel bad for him because he forgot. but the joke was on us because it was a week early! We were both oblivious. I guess that tradition now is Father's WEEK. More 'special' breakfasts for Jord! haha
Picking cherries at the Duncan's!
Our movie glasses at the aquarium and the cute little penguins!
This doesn't cover all of the fun and adventures we have had but to sum it up we have had the best year and we can't wait for many many more!
